MOMA Holds Summer Conference

The Minnesota Operators of Music & Amusements held their annual conference at the Radisson Hotel in Bloomington, MN on June 8-9. The conference was well attended with operators attending from MN, SD, ND, and Wl. Also in attendance, were representatives of AMI, Brian Aune, Kris Geck; BayTek Games, Mark Lenske, Holly Meidl; Arachnid, Chad Zander; Ecast, John Akin; MEI, Chris Felix; Touchtunes,Todd Martin; and distributers Moss Distributing, Sandy Zeglin and Leiberman Music Companies, Linda Winstead.

I would like to give a special thanks to Donovan Fremin, the AMOA president, for making time in his busy schedule to attend. This is the first time I met Donovan and he truly is an asset to the industry and to AMOA.
The first day of the schedule was meetings of the pool and dart committees. The operators in the MOMA realize how vital it is to have strong pool and dart leagues and they come together with different business plans but with one common goal and that is to get more league play. Most of the meetings center on the upcoming January 2012 tournament and the eligibility for that event. The 2011 tournament was the first year of a combined pool and dart tournament and also the first year that MOMA had invitee operators send teams. The general consensus’s is the tournament was a great success.
After the meetings we had a golf outing at the Wilds Golf Course in Prior Lake. Tim Zahn ( AAA ) had the longest drive, Mike Hawkins (D&R Star) had longest putt and Randy Baird (Northern Amusement ) the best score. Wednesday evening we had a beer ball tournament on BayTeks new Beer Ball games. The beer truly flows at this event.
Thursday morning we had a legislative update from our lobbyists followed by the annual meeting and the board of directors meeting. After lunch we honored two very special people , Doug Smart and Hy Sandler. Doug is the former owner of Northern Amusements Bemidji, MN and a long time board member. We wanted to thank him for all the years of loyalty to MOMA and his help on the many issues we faced. We wish him and his sweet wife Gloria the best retirement possible. Hy Sandler was my predecessor as the executive director of MOMA. He held that position for 20 years and with his guidance through good times and bad we became one of the best state organizations in the industry. Hy had to leave his position earlier than anticipated because of the illness of his wife Betty. Betty has since passed away but we will always remember them as the loving couple that held hands everywhere they went. BayTek held a seminar on their new Beer Ball game and after that we were done with the meetings.

Thursday evening we boarded a bus and went to the MN Twins game. We had fifty two people attend the game and the Twins won. The Twins have a new beautiful stadium and the food is great. Again, I want to thank all of you who attended the conference and wish you a good and safe summer.
